At Spa in The Valley, our hair designers achieve Silver, Gold and Platinum titles based on their years of experience and level of professional accomplishment. Rates are based on a hair designer’s title.
- Silver Level Hair Designers have at least 2 years of experience.
- Gold Level Hair Designers are highly skilled in their trade, have at least 6 years of experience and maintain a regular clientele.
- Platinum Level Hair Designers are the leaders in our industry. Each has mastered a degree of proficiency in their trade and have at least 10 years of experience.
All hair designers–regardless of title–must demonstrate excellence in customer service and a commitment to continuing their education.
Angel May Boone, Platinum Hair Designer
Angel offers multiple color and style services and is proficient in relaxers, balayage highlighting, and Keratin Smoothing services. She received her training in Los Angeles and practiced under notable stylists such as The Doves, Beth Minardi, and Nick Arrojo. Angel has been with Spa in The Valley since 2005 and loves her job because of the confidence she creates for her clientele. “Everyone is beautiful,” she says, “You just need to accentuate your best beauty features.”
Nicole Carbone, Platinum Hair Designer
Nicole joined Spa in The Valley in 2010. Nicole is a formal styling specialist and offers color services, cuts and perms to create the perfect look for each client. She trained with Carl’s of Cross Keys among others, and has studied with industry leaders such as Howard Fong and Wilmar Sick. Making clients feel good about themselves is what Nicole does best, whether it’s with the perfect hair design for a special event or a new look that suits their style. She believes that “you have to take care of yourself. When you look good, you feel good about yourself.”
Karen Curley, Platinum Hair Designer
Karen joined Spa in The Valley in 2004 and has been practicing hair styling for over 30 years. She specializes in coloring and highlighting services and offers color correction and cuts as well. Karen maintains her color skills through training with industry leaders including Framesi Color in New York. She uses these skills to transform her clients with styles that make them feel and look great. Karen stresses the importance of beautiful styling with her beauty philosophy: “Your hair is the ‘outfit’ you wear every day – it should look great, reflect who you are, and embody your lifestyle.”
Lindsay Dabbs, Gold Hair Designer
Lindsay is a style specialist and offers color services, cuts, styling, and feather extensions. Lindsay has been with the Spa in The Valley team since 2007 and loves making clients feel relaxed and beautiful. She strives to create one-of-a-kind looks by “bringing out the unique personality of each client through the art of hair styling and color.”
Kim DeSoto, Platinum Hair Designer & Hair Color Director
Kim is one of the region’s leading color experts. An American Board Certified Master Haircolorist, Kim offers a full range of color services—including corrective color, Balayage, dimensional color and highlighting—along with cuts, styling and perms. He has trained with some of the recognized experts in hair color around the globe, including Wella, Goldwell, and L’Oreal in Vienna and Paris, Lili Jakel in Toronto, Beth Minardi in New York, Jo Blackwell in New York, David Stanko at Redken and Nancy Braun at L’Oreal. He has been with Spa in The Valley since 2005 and his work has appeared in leading publications including Modern Salon Magazine and Goldwell Quarterly Magazine. In addition, he is a committee member and presenter for International Haircolor Exchange shows and Haircolor USA shows, and a testing consultant for Goldwell haircolor products. Kim focuses on making sure his clients understand their hair and creating an achievable look that exceeds their expectations. His favorite part of his job? “When I see a client look in the mirror for the first time with a new look and see the full body happy energy glow.”
Maria Gee, Platinum Hair Designer
Maria has been with Spa in The Valley since 2003. Maria is certified in both Goldwell and Wella color. She specializes in bridal styling and clients with curly hair. Maria’s broad skill set includes expertise with the Keratin smoothing system and she is passionate about listening to her clients’ needs. Making sure each client feels confident in their look is her top priority. Maria believes that “everyone is beautiful in their own way and should feel it.”
Steve Gill, Platinum Hair Designer
Steve has been with Spa in The Valley since 2005. Steve is a Wella Certified Colorist and a 10-year member of the Rusk Design Team where he serves as an educator. A specialist in color, cuts, texture services, and hair extensions, Steve has trained under such notable industry leaders as Sandra Yu, Irvine and Louise Rusk, Wilmar Sick and Howard Fong. “Ongoing education is the recipe for keeping the passion alive,” Steve believes. He is dedicated to making each client’s visit a special, one-on-one experience, guided by his beauty philosophy that “a great cut is not a great cut without great color.”
Jeannie Gwin, Platinum Hair Designer
Jeannie has been a hair stylist for over 20 years and has been a team member at Spa in The Valley since 2006. Jeannie is certified in Redken, Wella, and Goldwell color and offers multiple color services including highlights, lowlights, and coloring. Jeannie also offers styling for both special events and everyday styling. She is proficient with the Keratin smoothing system, and also offers formal styling, razor cuts, clipper cuts, and perms. Clients of Jeannie’s can be sure to feel like a work of art at the end of a session because Jeannie believes that hair styling should be executed with the creativity of an artist.
Nicole Kerr, Platinum Hair Designer
Nicole is an Aveda Full Spectrum colorist and stylist. Her many courses at the Aveda Institutes in Washington, D.C. and Minneapolis gave her the knowledge she needs to create any hair color and style her clients desire. Nicole is a licensed senior cosmetologist and has been with Spa in The Valley since 2007. She loves to incorporate natural elements into her coloring and styles and believes the simplicity of a style should never be underestimated. Using these principles to bring out the best in a client’s look makes “everyone a winner,” she says.
Anne Leith, Platinum Hair Designer
Anne brings more than 20 years of experience and an impressive list of accomplishments to her clients at Spa in The Valley. She began her career as an apprentice at Baltimore’s legendary salon, Carl’s Intercoiffure, and over the years she has trained under some of the industry’s most renowned names, including Deborah Gavin, Keratin Complex’s International Artistic Director, and Irvine and Rita Rusk, the founders of Rusk Hair Care. Anne has styled many local notables, including broadcast journalist Jayne Miller, and several members of the Baltimore Orioles. Her work has even been featured in Baltimore Bride magazine. Anne always strives to create cuts, styles, and color treatments that complement her clients’ unique hair texture, complexion and natural beauty.
Shontell Manokey-Lloyd, Silver Hair Designer
Shontell joined Spa in The Valley in 2010. Shontell is a style specialist, especially with hair weaving. She also offers relaxers, cuts, styles, and color. Shontell trained under Marcella Ellis of Marcella Ellis Hair Weaving Salon and gained multiple certifications in advanced hair weaving. Shontell is familiar with multiple weaving techniques and says that listening to her clients’ needs and expectations yields the best results.
Laura Marsh, Silver Hair Designer
Laura has been a member of the Salon by Debbie Spa team since 2013. A multi-talented stylist, she offers a broad range of hair design services, including cuts, color treatments, perms, and express blowouts, as well as complete nail care services. She is a graduate of Carroll County Career and Technology Center. “I believe that getting regular Spa treatments raises your self-esteem,” says Laura. “Making people feel happy and better about themselves is my favorite part of the job.”
Chloe Martin, Silver Hair Designer
A stylist since 2009, Chloe has practiced at some of the region’s most noted salons, include Samsara and Phoenix. She offers a complete suite of hair design services, including cutting, styling, color, highlighting, and color correction. She is also expertly trained in hair weaves and extensions, including Pure Extensions and Cinderella Hair Extensions. Chloe trained at The Temple, a prestigious Paul Mitchell partner school where she won one of the school’s biggest honors, the Caper Award. She believes there is no underestimating the power of a good cut. “A woman who cuts her hair is about to change her life,” she says. “A good cut makes everything after it—color, highlights, styling—better.”
Barbara McQuade, Platinum Hair Designer
Barbara offers a full range of cutting and color services for our clients. A skilled stylist with extensive experience, Barbara has trained with Robert Paul, Lupe Voss and David Adams and has completed advanced training with Aveda in color and technique and with Vidal Sassoon in cutting and styling. A member of the Spa in the Valley family since 2007, Barbara’s guiding philosophy for styling is simplicity. She focuses on communicating with her clients to fully understand their needs, and prides herself on long term relationships that deliver styles that clients love.
Bridget Moran, Platinum Hair Designer & Make-Up Artist
Bridget has been in the beauty business for over 20 years and a team member at Spa in The Valley since 2006. She offers cuts, color, formal styling, and make-up services, and has numerous certifications including Goldwell and Wella. Bridget’s experience in the field has led her work to be featured in both Style magazine and Paperdoll magazine. Bridget lives by her beauty philosophy that “everyone should be pampered.” She believes that achieving satisfaction with your look equates to “a little bit of change all the time.”
Brenda Paulshock, Platinum Hair Designer
A team member since 2006, Brenda has been practicing styling and color for over 20 years. Brenda offers both hair styling and coloring, formal hair design, and make-up application. Brenda has received multiple recognitions for her skills, including first place honors with Clairol for color, hair design, and make-up. She also received advanced training with Clairol as a color consultant. A true artist, Brenda loves sharing her creative techniques with her clients and making them feel confident in all phases of life. “When my clients walk out the door, I want them to feel important and beautiful,” she says.
Lisa Sautter, Platinum Hair Designer & Hair Color Manager
Lisa is the manager of the hair department at Spa in The Valley and is also a hair designer and color specialist. Lisa is certified in Wella, L’Oreal, and Goldwell color and pulls from all of this training to create the perfect spectrum of color for each client. She also offers 3D color, highlighting, and balayage highlighting. In addition to her color skill set, Lisa creates styles for either everyday or formal occasions. Her bridal styling work has been featured in Baltimore Bride magazine and formal styling and razor cuts are also in her repertoire. Lisa received training from both L’Oreal and Wella in Paris and keeps her styling skills sharp as a Sebastian Advocate and Salon Educator. Lisa has been with Spa in The Valley since 1996 and teaches her clients that when it comes to beauty, knowledge equals power.
Kelly Sturgis, Platinum Hair Designer
Kelly has been with Spa in The Valley since 2005. An American Board Certified Hair Colorist, she offers multiple services including the Coppola Smoothing System, balayage highlighting, and both men’s and women’s cuts. Kelly received advanced training from Crystal City Hair Show and studied under industry leader Robert Cromeans of Paul Mitchell. Providing clients with the highest level of service in a relaxing atmosphere is Kelly’s beauty philosophy. She loves the one-on-one communication with her clients who, she says, “have become more like friends and family than just clients.”
